Apple’s iOS has returned to the smartphone market, according to market research from research firm IDC. The mobile operating system of the tech giant had in the second quarter of 2013 a market share of 17.3 percent. In the same period last year iOS had 23 percent of the market.
The numbershipped iOS devices (31.2 million units) met the expectations of Wall Street, but despite a slight increase compared to last year saw Apple’s major competitor Google still take more away. Android now has a market share of 75 percent, more than ten percent more than in the second quarter of 2012.
Windows Phone has reinforced its third position. The market share of the Microsoft operating system has risen to 3.2 percent. A year earlier Windows Phone had to settle for two percent of the smartphone market. BlackBerry OS comes out at 2.9 percent. In the same period last year was 6.4 percent.
