News – Android tablets Nook HD and HD + from Barnes & Noble are not. The U.S. bookstore chain stops it and keep it from now on only e-books.
Barnes & Noble deletes are tablets with color screens and limited in hardware to e-readers with black-and-white e-ink screens. What content is concerned, the book retailer engaged in the sale of e-books and e-journals. Only then does not on its own tablet, which a year ago a patent settlement struck with Microsoft.

The maker of Windows had the Nook-seller namely sued for patent infringement. That meant using the open source Android operating system from Google, which would make various patents of Microsoft infringed. After initially fierce resistance and Barnes & Noble has harsh words for a settlement chosen.
Since then it has not gone the bookstores for the wind. B & N has just ended in the fourth quarter, sales from the Nook 34 percent see collapse. Over FY 2013, sales for the Nook business division slumped 16.8 percent, reports the British ICT news site The Register. The private e-reader and tablets have in the past financial year a turnover of 776 million dollars brought in, which contrasts sharply with the 4.6 billion that the retail operations muster.

The disappointing results for the hardware division are due to poor sales of particular color tablets. According to research firm IDC, B & N late last year achieved a market share of only 1.9 percent of those Android devices. The company was in the lucrative Christmas sales not only behind giants Apple and Samsung, but also far behind tablet competitors Amazon and Asus.
Barnes & Noble immediately cease production of its Nook HD and HD +. It holds formal still the option open of tablets with color screens, but through cooperation with any hardware partner for their manufacture. It is not known whether the bookstore chain already has in mind such Nook-maker. Meanwhile the Nook division of B & N still remains the e-readers with E-Ink screens make, next e-reader apps for PCs and mobile devices.
