Last week Google with a minor update to Android 4.4 (KitKat). The update, which surely was about 50 MB big, will be succeeded by an even smaller update (1.7 MB) large to Android 4.4.2. The update seems to solve. Include security issues
Android 4.4.2
Recently we received an update on the editorial staff at one of our Nexus 5′s. This update, which is 1.7 MB in size, took the phone from Android 4.4.1 to Android 4.4.2.
The build number of Android 4.4.2 (on the Nexus 5) KOT49H. From this build number, one can see that this version was made on the same day as Android 4.4.1. It is October 18. The ‘H’ in it shows that it is a slightly newer version than the build KOT49E Android 4.4.1. The latest version of Android 4.4 is a very minor update compared to 4.4.1, but what exactly is new is still somewhat unclear. In the update screen on the Nexus 5 indicates that it is updating the camera software, but that was the update from 4.4.0 to 4.4.1 already, it seems that this screen is primarily for people who are directly get an update to Android 4.4.2 from 4.4.0.
other devices, the update message blurred: there is talk of stability improvements and bug fixes. The U.S. carrier Sprint gave a slightly more detailed changelog for a different build number (KRT49, presumably with the same software as KOT49H, but in a different development branch). It contains four mentioned improvements: two changes to the VM indicator (VM seems to point in this case voicemail), several additional software upgrades and security enhancements
.
That last point, security enhancements, seem to us an important clue. Last Friday, when the updates were launched to Android 4.4.1, Google showed that it would take before the factory images of Android 4.4.1 would be released. Until after the weekend Now it became clear why: there was yet another update to arrive. It is possible that there is vulnerability poem in Android (4.4) and details will only be released when all Nexus devices are equipped with an update. Or to the (relatively harmless) leak causing Nexus devices can be through specially prepared text messages or another (more serious) leak, restart is not yet clear.
Availability
The update is currently rolling out for Nexus different devices. We have already seen reports of people who have received their Nexus 4, Nexus and Nexus 7 5 an update. The update for other devices will now also have begun or will follow shortly.
You can manually check for an update for your device is available via ‘Instellingen’ -> About the telefoon’ -> System Updates. If no update is displayed, it makes no sense to the ‘Now controleren’ button: a new group of terminals is designated only once a day. Removing the data Google Services Framework is a possibility, but is strongly advised that this causes issues with Google apps and other apps that use push notifications
.
Have your Nexus device also had no update to Android 4.4.1, then you will receive an instant update to 4.4.2. For non-Nexus devices is not yet clear when the update to KitKat will take place.
