Android G1 and six years old: this was my first Android experience – Android World

This week the six years since Android and the T-Mobile G1 hit the market. A nice milestone for Android, but there is quite a bit has changed in recent years.

Android and G1

When I think back to Android and the G1, in recent years, yet many, many changes. In the beginning was especially geeky Android and the G1 was not exactly a gem when it comes to design. The distinctive “chin” of the device, we also saw a number of successors returned and Android was gray and very basic. Of course, a lot has changed, new designs, multiple manufacturers, many Android version, tablets, refrigerators, TVs and more.

Android: my first experience

Soon after the launch of Android was my inner gadget-alarm off, I wanted to have an Android device, but in the Netherlands there was nothing available. The G1 was available only through T-Mobile in America and practically impossible to get without a subscription to the Netherlands. Luckily came the ADP1 (Android Development Phone 1) that could be sent to my great surprise it was to the Netherlands this course immediately ordered in December 2008 and a week later I had my first Android smartphone and Android World was already a Founded month ago.

Previously I had recently used the first iPhone, so had some experience with a smartphone, but the G1 was completely different. There is one function of the G1 that well with me has remained the keyboard. This has no manufacturer can match. It is of course good that there has been an evolution, and there is almost no smartphones are more with a keyboard, most are now accustomed to tapping a screen. Yet I often think with much joy back to this slide, physical keyboard.

Names like Jesus Freak come over the top, a developer who has done for Android. Lot in the early days The G1 rooting, with a custom ROM, but boot loops, freezes and spontaneous reboots were the order of the day. Still, I have enjoyed the G1 and if there is an improved version would come out of the retro G1, I would buy for sure if it was just to decorate my desk.
