Google is working on Android version for virtual reality – Android World

At Google I / O 2014, the annual developer conference Google, the company had a surprise. Two Google employees had in the free part of their time a simple virtual reality glasses developed for Android smartphones. It seems that Google this idea develops further and is working on a special Android version for virtual reality.

Virtual Reality

With Google Cardboard let Google see that for a few dollars has been possible to offer impressive virtual reality. Lately, we have several new virtual reality capabilities seen that work with Android, like the Samsung Gear VR developed in collaboration with Oculus. The original version of these glasses work with the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and the new version works with the Galaxy Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge. An alternative to other devices is the virtual reality glasses Homido. The software runs on these types of solutions to the smartphone, which also provides the sensors and the screen.

We saw last week that HTC in collaboration with developer Valve also comes with a virtual reality goggles. These glasses have a screen on board and will only work with a high-end gaming PCs. This also applies to the upcoming Oculus Rift, which currently only developer versions are released.

New Android version?

According to the Wall Street Journal is Google a new Android version specifically made for virtual reality. This version would fall into the same category as already launched Android versions: Android TV, Android and Android Car Wear and would be designed for virtual reality hardware and software

The question is where Google specifically. works. The company works on its own Android version running on separate virtual reality devices? Or, perhaps to an application that operates on Android devices whereby the spectacles, for example, can be used with Cardboard. According to the Wall Street Journal, Google has put dozens of people on the project, a sign that Google virtual reality seriously.

We know at least that there is at least a grain of truth in the rumors. Cardboard is very well received and there are more and more supported apps and games. Not bad for a pilot course. In addition, Google has spent the past year working on a new version of the classic View-Master. In collaboration with Mattel, the company offers a virtual reality version of the View-Master on the market.

Google I / O

If the rumors are true, then we’ll fix them and certainly see more of during Google I / O this year. The developer conference will be held at 2015 on 28 and 29 May, a month earlier than last year
