Google CEO Larry Page has this week revealed that more than 1.5 million Android smartphones activated every day. Last September there were still 1.3 million.
Earlier the company had reported that more than 900 million Android devices worldwide. The CEO said that this “is pretty amazing given that the first Android phone was released. Less than five years ago ”
From Google’s own appstore, the Play Store, downloaded more than 50 billion apps. This is twice as much compared with the figure from September, when it was still 25 billion apps.
It is expected that the Play Store Apple’s App Store this year or early next year in terms of total downloads catch up later. The Apple App Store reached the milestone of 50 billion downloads already in May this year. Page also noted that while Google Chrome is only four years old, the browser already has 750 million users worldwide.
