a smartphone nowadays have all your data in your pocket. Convenient, but that also makes it a target for thieves and hackers who know what to do with your most important data. But you’re not as fragile as it seems by a number of things to take to ensure that your belongings stay safe.
in eight1. Note permissions
The permissions that you approve of downloading an app for you and installs are a good protection against junk. Every time you install an app, you get presented with a list showing where they all have access to. Most people do not pay attention to here and click immediately ‘Accept’, but sometimes it makes sense to see if the flashlight app for example paid numbers want to call or to discover that Facebook is simply the entire phone can use.
The system of permissions for many users is archaic and difficult to understand, but in newer versions of Android, they have become more apparent. You can tap on any authorization for more details and to find out as to make informed decisions about which apps you allow on your system. Unfortunately it is not possible to deny individual authorize so it is all or nothing (and start looking for another app).
2. Only download from Google Play
Android fans often talk about the benefits of side loading of apps on your smartphone. That sounds good on paper: you should be able to run on your device and not just the apps that have been approved by Google every app capable. But downloading and installing apps you’ve found through any portal you can even bring if you are careful in trouble.
Google Play has sometimes suffered from malicious apps, but Google keeps most junk outside the official app store or has it pretty quickly removed. It is not as reliable as the Apple App Store, but it’s not like you’re playing a game of Russian roulette every time you download an app. But download from another website and you set your unit may be exposed to all kinds of crap. Malware Creators tackle gang often again in the ‘official’ apps as a client for Twitter or a version of Angry Birds.
There are a few reliable alternative stores such as F-Droid, but for the most part it is playing with fire. If you only download from Google Play, you significantly reduce the chance that you install malicious software. Malware Creators start malicious APK’s also rolling out via emails and banners. To completely if you are not one hundred percent know what you’re doing, safe it is best to make sure that download from “Unknown sources” in settings is unchecked (like Android default is delivered).
