The standard is available not only for hardware manufacturers, but also for online services as their specific apps or programs can secure. app for banking then access the fingerprint stored locally by the fingerprint scanner.
Apple already has a fingerprint scanner (Touch ID) used in the iPhone 5S, but does not use FIDO. According to Barret Apple would use the technology simply: “I think Apple will eventually use FIDO but that will probably take years yet.”
leaked pictures of the HTC Max is also a fingerprint scanner to see. Whether this is going to work with FIDO is not known.
