Google has started the roll-out of Chrome 54 for Android. The latest version of the web browser, makes it finally possible to get audio to play while the browser no longer in the foreground is open.
The Chrome 54-update since last night rolled out via the Play Store, and is probably within a few days for everyone. If you can’t wait, then you can update also as separate apk to download and install manually. The installation file you can download here; then follow our instructions for installing the individual apk files.
Chrome 54 introduces a much requested feature: the ability to audio in the background to play. Opened your ex music or video in a browsertab, I had that tab open to continue listening. Also the unit is in standby mode, and then by listening there was not. Frustrating, because with Apple’s iOS that was possible.
In the latest version of Chrome is which option is finally added. All HTML5-video-and -audio can be played in the background. For all that are playing audio will now see a notification above in the picture that the sound can pause or resume.
The New Tab page of Chrome also has some subtle changes. Under the shortcuts to your most-visited websites is now a list of articles that are according to Google is interesting. The link to your favorites and recent tabs is further to the bottom disappeared.
finally, the colored tabs in the overview of all your tabs. The browser offers developers quite a while the possibility to get their website another clip color allocated to the display and that function is now also reflected if you switch between other tabs.
