Sony will let users of Android 7.1-builds to compile for Xperia smartphones – Tweakers

Sony has instructions online that allow developers to ‘bare’ Android 7.1-rom’s can build. That can then be installed on unlocked Xperia smartphones. Previously did Sony have something similar with Android 6.0-roms.

The Japanese manufacturer has the conscious instructions to his ontwikkelaarswebsite. There are both instructions online for roms based on Android 7.0 to 7.1. That of version 7.1, however, still considered experimental referred. The manual is self-built Android-based software of the AOSP to be made, which can then be installed on Xperia devices.

There is a list of devices that AOSP rom’s support, and that Sony has on its website. In order for the software to run it is necessary to first unlock the bootloader of the smartphone to unlock it; by default, this is namely locked. There is also a need for device-specific binaries to download. Not for all the Xperia smartphones are binaries to download for Android 7; for some devices supports Sony only Android version 6.0.

It is not the first time that Sony is experimenting with a ‘bare’ Android build for its Xperia smartphones. So there were already binaries from which developers Android rom build based on Android 6.0. Incidentally, the manufacturer, however, that the AOSP software is not per se suitable for daily use; there may be stability issues occur. With the make available of the manual hopes Sony also that developers make a contribution to the further development of the software.
