Android 5.1 Lollipop already used Google presentation? – Android World

Google is currently busy rolling out Android 5.0 Lollipop. In the background are working hard to resolve any problems. We are also working on a new Android version, was so see during Devoxx developer conference, reported a visitor to Android World.

Android 5.1?

During Devoxx, currently taking place in Antwerp, gave Android developers Romain Guy and Chet Haase presentation. The duo gave during the presentation a short code example on the big screen in the hall. , Which showed that the Nexus 5 used for the demonstration is running on Android Lollipop MR1. The latter stands for maintenance release 1. That may sound like a minor update that would fix bugs, but the past teaches us this kind of maintenance releases bring a whole new Android version, with the exception of Gingerbread.

This started in Eclair, Android 2.0. The first maintenance release for Android 2.1 Eclair was. Honeycomb, Android 3.0 initially, had two maintenance releases, Android 3.1 and 3.2. The same applies to Jelly Bean: that was initially Android 4.1, but Android 4.2 and 4.3 were named Jelly Bean with the addition MR1 and MR2, respectively. Exceptionally Gingerbread (Android 2.3) MR1 got the version number 2.3.3 (and 2.3.4) it.

Android 5.1?

What does this mean for Android 5.1?

Very little. It is interesting to see that Google is working on a new Lollipop version, but a lot can change in the meantime everything. That the Nexus 5 of Messrs runs on Lollipop MR1, does not mean that Google decides to give Android 5.1 along in the name Lollipop. It could also be that it is a version as Android 5.0.1, as we have seen with Gingerbread.

What it means is that the developers currently have the idea that the next update will be a relatively small else with a different name, “Android M ‘was fixed probably worked. That seems logical, given the high aspirations that Google Android 5.0 shown at Lollipop. Funny detail is that these developers in a chat earlier joke that a new Android version still is only good at the first maintenance release. Made

Tip: Jeroen, thanks
