Google is working on a new Copresence solution, which lets you transfer files between iOS and Android could share. The function is similar to AirDrop, but between iPhone and Android smartphones. Many details are not yet known and named Copresence might change. But it is clear that Google is working on it. References to Copresence have been found in the latest Google Play Services software and the Chromium bug tracker.
Copresence is mentioned no less than 18 times in the Chromium bug tracker. In addition, Google APIs (application programming interfaces) that has made (see figure below). You can use the new feature It would be a service to exchange files or messages between iOS and Android. Last June there was already information out about a new project, that Android devices can warn ‘people, places and things “are nearby. The function was then Nearby called and was described as a location-based feature for Android devices. But it is now known that the function is not tied to one platform. IOS will also be supported.
Last month, Google has updated some buglijsten, suggesting that they are busy pointing with copresence. In those lists also mentions GCM, the existing Google Cloud Messaging service that can use makers of Android apps. Allows them to GCM send files or data from a server to an Android app. But copresence does more: images point to peer-to-peer file transfer, as is already possible with AirDrop. One of the pictures shows how you can forward a song from an iPhone to an Android device.
Copresence may be based on location. An app then tells you which friends are nearby and shows you the possibilities to exchange files. That actually looks like AirDrop. To ensure that both devices trust each other, uses location information or Bluetooth, possibly in combination with whisper . The latter is an authentication method that Google already used to let Chromecast connect to the network. The file transfer takes place via a shared Wi-Fi network or via Wi-Fi Direct. Google would like to announce the new service within a few weeks.
