3 mistakes of Android Wear Apple Watch should avoid – Computerworld.nl

Background Apple Watch is since last week to order and from 24 April he will be extradited. But do you actually have one? The lessons of Android Wear.

It is not yet clear what the watch, except display the time, play messages, heartbeats share and track your physical activity. The first reviews are mixed and that is remarkable, given Apple’s policy to send the first review copies to reviewers friendly

.

It is not the first smart watch. The Pebble was there first, and smart watches with Android existed for more than a year. Both platforms have found a niche, but do not catch on with the general public. They can be nice to show what the pros and cons of such a system and give you maybe have an idea or a smart watch what is for you.

I have a while Samsung Gear Live used first with a Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy S6. The Gear Live runs Android Wear and therefore works like any Android wearable. I thought it was not such a useful device, but you can see some potential. I found the smart watch more frustrating to use and hence it offers a glimpse into what Apple not to do and what Android Wear can improve.

It runs on the Android smart watch especially for notifications. That is a logical move by Google, because Wear retrieves those notifications on Google Now – the virtual assistant that runs on Android devices. You can also receive messages from other Android apps. Your phone can display an endless stream of messages with status updates, weather, travel times, restaurants nearby, text messages, emails, appointments, reminders, and incoming calls.

It is quite an overload and when the novelty has once off after a day or two, all the reports are starting to be annoying. After a week it became clear to me that all these interruptions and notifications to ask your attention – even the little status bars at the bottom -. Be much more intrusive than the smartphone, tablet and computer

In my view, there is no good ability to adapt firm that reports so you will be interrupted only for messages that you really want. That is missing, but there is an option to disable all Google Now cars in the Android app and Wear to turn off calendar reminders. But you can not adjust individual alerts.

The Google app lets you further customize Google Now cards, but those changes apply to both the smart watch as smartphone. You can continue some – but not all -. Apps block on the smartphone by swiping through in the message screen until you arrive at a blocker function

But still if I turn off the irrelevant messages – which I really only calendar reminders and email notifications get inside – I still find them irritating and that’s because you can not filter within the apps. I get a lot of junk mail from PR people and spam that gets through the filter business emails and I do not need to see my wrist. For such interruptions, I would only get messages from colleagues, friends or family

So I do not refer to any birthday or national holiday -. What should I do with these “urgent” calendar information? Through this kind of thing is a smart watch an annoyance amazing device. It was even hard for me to Gear Live again in the morning to do

The lesson:. Notifications should be filtered and not only on what apps they can do. When it comes to messages, applies ‘less is more’.

For Apple Watch: Provide a logical settings window which you can do this kind of fine-grained adjustments. The message settings iOS 8 do most of all, so there is a good basis which can be started and let’s hope that Apple uses.
