The update of the app will be gradually rolled out and may not yet available to everyone. The latest version can also be manually downloaded from the website of Whatsapp.
The new design has green bars at the top and a slightly tighter and quieter design. Also, the icons for a new chat and options have changed.
conversation level is the bottom bar which can be typed changed. The order of icons is the same, but the conversation bar is now separate from the background as a kind of pop-up. The voice icon is also disconnected from the bar.
Material Design was introduced by Google with the release of Android 5.0 Lollipop. Whatsapp not take all design proposals. So Google apps today use a large round button at the bottom of the app, for example to create a new mail or appointment.
Whatsapp used those big round button, but the button in the bar continues to use the top.
