android5 Android and iOS dominate the smartphone market in 2013 It probably will not surprise anyone that Android and iOS dominate the smartphone market currently. Of all smartphones sold in the first quarter of this year, almost 93% shipped with Android or iOS.

Android has another piece nibble away market share from its competitors and this is the big winner. Google’s mobile OS has now moved up to a market share of 75% in the first quarter of 2013.

IDC, International Data Corporation, collects quarterly in some 60 countries, the sales figures of smartphones. With 1000 analysts analyze and then predicts the company’s trends in smartphone area.

these statistics from IDC, we see that Apple’s iOS in the last quarter of last year in the chase had gone and had taken a bit of market share back. Android is now yet again come back strong. The market share of Android ran in the fourth quarter is returned from 74.8% to 70.2% (-4.6%). Apple’s iOS has the first quarter of 2013 almost 4% market share handed over the final quarter of last year. (21% to 17.3)

If we look we see that Windows Phone has found the way up again the figures. While the mobile operating system from Microsoft, but still has a market share of 3.3%, this is still a substantial increase over the last quarter of last year. (2.6% market share 4th quarter 2012).

Worldwide shipped smartphones

With over 162.1 million Android devices shipped, compared to 37.4 iPhones shipped, we immediately see that Android is currently the most mainstream mobile operating systems in the world. Because Android is represented in almost all price categories of smartphones the mobile OS from Google speaks naturally a larger group of consumers.
