Microsoft will stop developing Android apps conversion option – GSM Helpdesk Netherlands

The ability for developers to easily convert an existing Android app to a Windows Phone app will never appear. Microsoft has pulled the plug on Project Astoria. Under this code name the functionality was developed that allows Android apps to Windows apps could be translated.

Microsoft is going to do more with Project Island Wood, a similar project that iOS apps can be translated to Windows apps. Although there are meanwhile more Android apps than iOS apps, iOS apps still appear to be the most popular.

The development of conversion options of both Android and iOS apps would provide little additional income. Most Android apps are available for iOS and vice versa. Offering one conversion option is therefore in the eyes of Microsoft sufficient.

Under the leadership of Steve Ballmer bewint, former CEO of Microsoft, Project Astoria has started. Last year, Ballmer called for continuation of the project after the current CEO of Microsoft, Satya Nadella by increasingly Ballmer projects was to draw a line. Last year were already rumors that Microsoft was going to stop the development of conversion capabilities of Android apps.
