General Mobile GM 5 is the first new smartphone with Android 7.0 – Android Planet

The first smartphone directly from Android 7.0 (Nougat) with is available from today in the Netherlands. Not Google, LG, or Samsung but the relatively unknown General Mobile has the scoop.

The General Mobile GM 5 is the first smartphone in the Netherlands directly with Android 7.0 is launched. The unit is from this week available at different online stores, including the Media market. It is a real budgetsmartphone, with a suggested retail price of 190 euros.

Although the final version of Android 7.0 since the end of August is available for manufacturers, there are few phones with the new software. A small number of existing devices, like the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P, have all the updates. Among other things, the LG V20 and Google Pixel were directly launched with Android 7.0, but these are not yet available in the Netherlands. This is the small General Mobile is the first manufacturer of a new device with Android 7.0 brings to the market.

Android One

General Mobile is connected with the Android One program. That means that the manufacturer, minimal changes to Android. Also ensures company for two years, updates to the latest version of the operating system, including monthly security updates. Although Android One is mainly intended for emerging countries, is General Mobile is also active on the Dutch market.

The device seems to be great similarities with the General Mobile Android One, a smartphone that the Turkish manufacturer last year reported. The design and a large part of the hardware is almost identical. It seems that the manufacturer this unit is now re-launching under a different name. By the addition of Android 7.0 can the GM 5 however, still compete with recent budgetsmartphones.
