Why I did not get my newspaper on Android or Windows tablet? Questions and … – nrc.nl

Subscribers nrc.next or TVNZ read through an Android or Windows device could their newspaper as a result of two successive failures since Tuesday to stop downloading. That problem is solved Friday morning. What was going on?

1. What exactly happened?
We have had two failures.

Tuesday, hackers have made an attack on the company Twipe Mobile, that publishes NRC digital editions of nrc.next and TVNZ in the apps for Android and Windows. The hackers have a lot of damage, so infrastructure rehabilitation lasted long. Only in the course of Thursday could nrc.next and TVNZ are disseminated through Twipe.

On Friday morning was a new failure, this time at Microsoft, which provides part of the infrastructure of Twipe. As a result, Friday nrc.next could also not be downloaded for several hours. This second failure was completely different from the burglary at Twipe and has been fixed.

Both failures surpassed only digital edition for Android and Windows. Readers who receive nrc.next or TVNZ on an iPad or iPhone did not affect the problems. Those apps are not operated by Twipe.

Not only NRC is affected by the problems in Twipe. Also some newspapers in France and Belgium, including Standard and Antwerp Gazette , suffered the failure.

It is still unclear who is responsible for the hack.

2. Are there in the burglary captured personal information?
There are currently no indications that passwords of our readers may be in the hands of hackers. Obviously we close eye on whether we still keep finding evidence of abuse. Once we signals that indicate that there is still receive data may have come into unauthorized hands, we will provide the customers that use the Android or Windows app about this.

3. What alternative is there for the Android and Windows apps?
Users had during the failure or simply access the web version of the digital newspapers through digitaleeditie.nrc.nl /.

4. Subscribers who receive compensation are affected by this failure?
Subscribers who use the Android or Windows app to be offset by an extension of their subscription with the number of editions that are missed by the fault.
