According to research from security company Lookout. The infected apps are not known to end up in the official Google Play Store.
These are pieces of code that developers have added to existing apps. The edited apps are then reported to unofficial appwinkels.
Users who download the edited apps are faced with many advertising popups. According to Lookout, there are currently about 20,000 apps with adware.
Famous apps
The adware makers have their code hidden in copies include WhatsApp, Candy Crush and Facebook.
The apps appear to function normally, the incidental publicity after. Before adware was distributed mainly through apps that only a well-known name and logo carried with them.
According to Lookout, it’s a hard job to get clean again a smartphone. It is not always clear where the complaints are coming from
