Review 6P Nexus: Nexus finally is again king of Android – Android World

With the launch of the Nexus 6P also came this year, a high-end Nexus smartphone in the market. Standard Android, good specifications, but how does the 6P? We check it in this comprehensive review.

Huawei Nexus

This is the first year that Google’s Chinese manufacturer Huawei has chosen to make a Nexus device. The result is the Nexus 6P, on paper, a high-end smartphone that should make up for the shortcomings of the Nexus 6. I started working with the Nexus 6P and have over a week experience with the silver 32GB variant. My findings from this prospective tops mart phone can be read in this comprehensive review.

Design Nexus 6P

The design of the Nexus 6P is striking, yet refined. The whole is made entirely of metal, the body is made entirely of aluminum. This gives the handset a premium feel and is because of this well in hand. However, do not rely on a small device with a 5.7 inch screen, the Nexus 6P is certainly large. Are you looking for a smartphone that is handy and easy to operate with one hand, then do certainly not for the 6P. Do you have a larger screen size and corresponding device, the Nexus 6P is another option. Yet the format is somewhat along in comparison, for example, the Nexus 6 of last year and he feels about the same size as the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge +.

The design of the Nexus 6P is striking yet sophisticated

How many people were at the pictures of the device before and after the launch in late September, was the back side. Here is to find a particularly large “camera-beam,” which is placed over the entire width. It was feared that this would protrude too far, but this is in practice very bad. Because of this went for many people prefer the black version, where this bar would not be noticeable. Meanwhile I walk over a week around the silver version with the corresponding camera black bar at the back and actually I am already used to it. In fact, I think it provides a particularly interesting and bold design element where I can not be negative about. It breaks the standard somewhat, with the unit in other areas especially pretty sophisticated.

In this Gorilla Glass 4-conditioned camera bar at the back we find the fingerprint scanner, the Nexus and Huawei logo. The whole has slightly rounded corners and in front we obviously love the large, 5.7-inch AMOLED screen. The bezels above and below the screen is relatively large, this has partly to do with the fact that there are two front-facing-speakers are placed. Personally, as someone who has nothing against major smartphones, I have no problem with it, a good sound is important and if a few millimeters brings extra with it, I can as well live with it.

There are two buttons present on the 6P, which are positioned both on the right side. The volume buttons and a power button with texture. As a result, do not miss it, but because unlock the device with the fingerprint scanner, you use the button yet less often.

The Nexus 6P has a unique design, a refined finish, but is a big boy. Still, I am very impressed by the look and feel of the Nexus 6P, even though he’s big

Screen Nexus. 6: white is not white

The Nexus 6P has a large , 5.7-inch screen with a qHD resolution (2560×1440). It was chosen an AMOLED screen, with true blacks and deep colors are displayed. This is also the case with the Huawei Nexus 6P. Yet I have a small question mark on a claim that Huawei has made over the screen. They could have chosen to use the latest generation of AMOLED screens (Samsung) in the 6P, where there is a lot of time spent on calibration of the white levels. This configuration of the white balance is important in every screen, this could provide an even better experience. But when I put the Nexus 6P the screen next to the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge +, which features an AMOLED screen is used, the 6P is much “more yellow” in the color white. Therefore I suspect that the calibration is not optimal, or that an older generation screens (presumably the Galaxy Note 4th generation) is used. This does not mean that it is bad screen, not at all, they make the claim alone is not entirely true.

of the 6P screen provides further very good performance, in terms of color reproduction and black levels. The colors are rich and deep and make it look and work with the 6P very pleasant. The brightness is quite sufficient. So, apart from the white levels, Huawei has a good choice made by using AMOLED, a screen through is appreciated in general users.

Is the processor ‘cool’ enough?

Also important is the performance of a smartphone. The Nexus 6P is the latest generation Snapdragon 810 used in combination with 3GB RAMgeheugen. Often, there is still a negative taste to the Snapdragon 810, especially since the first generation suffered badly from heat problems. Meanwhile, also this chipset has matured and I have no time (too) hot device had during my test period. Not while playing a heavy game, or perform other tasks or running benchmarks. Of course, a smartphone or warmer, you can see this with any brand and type, but the Nexus 6P was at no time overheat, causing the performance to decline. This was for example the HTC One M9 is the case.

The performance looked forward to playing tough games, but daily use such as navigating the menus, home screens and apps are fine. I have only once seen a slight hesitation, the keyboard is not opened immediately after hitting the field. This seems to have been an isolated issue, because during the entire test period, the performance of the Nexus 6P were as it should be: fast and good response to commands and touch

I have only once seen a slight hesitation

Pure Android enjoy

appliances from the Nexus series comes standard Android, also in the case of the Nexus 6P is running Android 6.0 Marshmallow on. Here I have previous experience with it during my review of deNexus 5X, but I’m happy to repeat my experiences with this new software from Google.

I see Android 6.0 as a refinement of Android 5.X Lollipop, where there are relatively few visual changes have been made. There is a lot of new features added to Android, which provide a better user experience, but also work on improving the privacy and control a user has over his aircraft. Take for example the permission management, which can be chosen exactly which apps have access to the features. Would you not, for example that Facebook can access contacts or storage, this can be stated in the new permission management. It even goes a step further. If apps support, is to install from the Play Store not asked for any permission. These are individually displayed after the app for the first time has started and these are actually needed. So Hangouts will only ask for a permission to view files or photos on the store at the time the function is called. This permission model give users much more control over the rights and permissions of apps.

I see Android 6.0 as a refinement of Android 5 .X Lollipop

The battery life is also always a hotly debated issue with smartphones, they do not last long enough. Again, Google has developed a software-based solution for added. Doze during standby of the device background processes optimized and not rotated continuously. This means that once the screen goes off, the unit as it were deeper falls asleep and wakes up occasionally to check everything out. Important messages, such as SMS or WhatsApp messages, or come right inside. Within Doze can be displayed per app or process whether it should be or not optimized. Again therefore more control, with Doze be able to guarantee a 30% improvement in battery life.

Personally, I’m a fan of Android pure, clean, few frills and other functions. This is exactly what the Nexus 6P offers Android 6.0 with Marshmallow also want a guarantee of quick updates directly from Google. It is therefore reasonable no-brainer to choose in terms of software, but there are many more factors that influence a purchase decision

Battery:. Is 3450 mAh enough ?

So Google made improvements to the battery implemented in Android 6.0, but also the supplied battery in the 6P’s nothing wrong with a capacity of 3450mAh. On the other hand, the screen of the Nexus 6P is large and has a high resolution, resulting in a relatively large current will be consumed. That’s why I was before I started the review especially curious if the battery would endure to the end of the day, fortunately this is the case. Even under tough conditions, so call regularly, check social media, browsing and gaming even half an hour, the Nexus 6P reach the end of the day, without too much trouble. Hence, the screen does not directly harm the battery. Longer than one day may also need to be achieved with average use, but you will to him in the course of the second day should also equally recharge.

This charge is done with a USB-C cable, is included in the box. Thus, there is a long C-USB-to-USB-cable at C, which can be connected to the 3A-charger (fast charger) in the box. In addition there is a short-to-USB-C-regular USB cable can be found, which can be used, for example, for a power bank or PC. Keep in mind so that the Nexus 6P has a USB port and C-microUSB cables can not be used. Here are a lot of adapters, but there are now finding many stories that prove that this does not always work well. For example, to use even warned omgeen ‘bad’ USB cables or adapters as this may damage the phone simply.

Like many, I lie down at night my phone next to the bed on the charger and 2A charger I used it (with microUSB adapter +) it does not manage the smartphone to complete full charge overnight. With the regular charger, this is not a problem, but I myself have chargers are many places that I shall now therefore is to replace, presumably all. On the other hand USB-C seems to become fully embraced and we will eventually all proceed step

Fingerprint Scanner.? Good positional game

The fingerprint scanner is new to the Nexus series and goes like Nexus Imprint through life. From Android 6.0 Marshmallow fingerprint scanners are officially supported in the software. This means that manufacturers do not own solutions need to program more such example is done with the Samsung Galaxy S6. It is therefore logical Google has chosen these devices in the Nexus series thus equip. I was ahead of the review do wonder, is the position on such a large smartphone like the Nexus 6P correct?

Yes, even on the Nexus 6P fingerprint scanner works very nice on the back. Myself I always take with me in my pocket and pull out my smartphone when I put my finger on the scanner at the back and at the moment I can see the screen, the Nexus 6P is unlocked and ready to use. It is also almost unbelievable how well the scanner, if you look at the setup. With up to five times scan your finger, it is set and the match rate around 98%. Even with damp fingers Nexus Imprint works well, something other smartphones is not the case.

Yes, even on the Nexus 6P The fingerprint scanner is very pleasant on the back

However, there is a small downside to the position of the fingerprint scanner. If you use it flat on a table or desk, it is not possible to unlock the 6P with a fingerprint without lifting it. Fortunately, there is also a pattern or code as an alternative, which can then be used.

Finally no camera woes more

The camera Nexus smartphone was not exactly known for its quality or speed. Like the Nexus 5X, this is the Nexus 6P also tuned by Mansory. The 12.3 megapixel camera with support for HDR, makes high-quality photographs. The HDR mode ensures that the light conditions are improved and therefore even better reflects the light and colors. The included camera app on the Nexus 6P has more than enough options that can be chosen to unlock the Professional Mode, more settings.

Starting up the camera by pressing twice on the power button button, a feature that it is actually meant quite often starts with me. I token, unconsciously, still often twice after pressing together on the home button. Starting up the camera via the power button may incidentally be something faster, it will take slightly longer than the competition.

The photos make the Nexus 6P, as identified, of good quality, especially good lighting conditions. There is less light, then called the pictures still somewhat reasonable, but there is certainly room for improvement.

All in all, Google has finally managed to equip the Nexus devices this year with a decent camera and associated software.

Conclusion

This review of the Nexus 6P we have reviewed all aspects of this potential tops mart phone. Meanwhile, I dare to omit or the word potential and to say this is one of the best, if not the best smartphone with Android is currently available. This for people who are looking for a large appliance. The fingerprint scanner works quickly and well, the camera is finally in order and also the software is a refinement compared to the previous versions. Even the battery life have Huawei and Google good for each other. In short, the Nexus 6P is definitely a device I would recommend to all “major smartphone enthusiasts. But we could live better in the United States, the price difference is bizarre great for such a device ($ 499 in the US and € 649 in the Netherlands).
