BlackBerry is working on two new mid-range Android smartphones – TechTastic

It is obvious that BB10 BlackBerry has lost the battle of iOS and Android, and the chance that the operating system is going to make a comeback seems to be very unlikely. The Canadian company is now also penetrated well that the only chance to continue to build smartphones to run it on Android.

The BlackBerry Priv was the first Android smartphone from the company and in view of the presentation the recent quarterly results the unit has not become a big success. That is not for us as a big surprise because the Priv cost at time of writing still more than 700 euros, while the Galaxy S7, iPhone 6s and LG G5 are all available for less money while still considerably better specifications offer.

In conversation with the National gives BlackBerry CEO John Chen that it was a mistake to begin with a high-end Android smartphone. “The fact that we have a high-end phone [our first Android smartphone] probably did not need to be as wise as it could. A large group of business customers have told us, “I want to buy your phone, but $ 700 is a bit too much. I’m more interested in a $ 400 device ‘, “said Chen.

Analysts had expected about 850,000 BlackBerry Priv’s could sell, but the end of March there were only sold 600,000. The good news for BlackBerry is that the losses were halved from the mobile division, which means there is still hope for Blackberry in the smartphone market. Chen himself is still optimistic that he can save the mobile division and that is why the end of the year two new Android smartphones from BlackBerry to be released.

This new BlackBerry smartphones with Android focus on the mid-range market and will not exceed $ 400 cost. It is probably the last chance for BlackBerry, because when the new devices do not sell so well, then there is a chance that the hardware division will close its doors. “Since I started, I put at the company I profitable going to make the hardware division. If I can not get it profitable for the market, then we will stop making phones. I love our hardware division, but we must create “money, says Chen
