Sony and Google bring Trial Android N for Xperia Z3 – Tweakers

Sony and Google have put an online test version of the Android Developer Preview of N for the Xperia Z3. It is the first time that test firmware for the next Android version to flash on a device that is not delivered by Google.

The installation of the Developer Preview of Android N on the Xperia Z3 is via the desktop application PC Companion. Pressing Alt and clicking Software Repair when the device is connected, users are given the opportunity to update the phone to Android N.

Earlier hinting Google already on the arrival of the Android N Developer Preview to non-Nexus devices. Sony has previously it builds for yet unreleased Android versions released, but that was about AOSP firmware without eg a working camera, WiFi and Google services.

It is unknown whether the function also works with devices where the bootloader is unlocked and where users have root access. Moreover, Sony leaves open whether the device during the process goes back to factory settings, all is though obvious.

It is unclear whether Sony later makes updating more devices to Android N Developer Preview and some manufacturers there will also start. The Developer Preview worked so far on the Nexus 5X, 6P and 6. Tweakers published in March a preview of Android N.
