The Consumers continue with their struggle to get faster updates for Android smartphones. According to the union informing manufacturers of Android smartphones hardly about device updates their clients. The Consumers’ Association believes that manufacturers matter should be much clearer, so that consumers can make an informed choice for a smartphone.

the Consumers looked in April 2016 on the websites of Android manufacturers or inform their customers about how long as they update their smartphones and what guarantees they provide for this. It shows that manufacturers are often not clear over what period they continue to support devices with updates and no manufacturer guarantees updates.

General Mobile, HTC, Huawei and LG provide very limited information about updates and information is also very much hidden. Samsung does indicate until when they will be updating different types of smartphones, but that information is hard to find. Sony gives the clearest and-find information, but omit how long smartphones remain supported.

Campaign Update!
Research by the Consumers’ Association show that the majority of Android smartphones do not have the latest version of the operating system. The Consumers want their devices manufacturers provide at least two years of purchase updates and to be transparent about their update policy. To achieve this, the Consumer Association in 2015 launched the campaign “Update!”.
