Android Marshmallow runs early May at 7.5% Android devices – Telecompaper

Google has reached a penetration with the latest version of its mobile operating system Android, Marshmallow (6.0) of 7.5 percent. This is evident from the latest figures for Android on the Google Developer Blog, the week up to May 2nd. A month earlier the penetration of Marshmallow was still at 4.6 percent, a doubling compared to the previous month (2.3%).

The growth of Marshmallow, introduced in October 2015, is partly at the expense of the share of Android 5 (Lollipop) and Android 4.4 (KitKat). In early May turned Lollipop, the second-latest version of Android (from October 2014), still at 35.6 percent of all Android devices. On April 4, that figure was 35.8 per cent, in early March was 36.1 percent. Android KitKat, from October 2013, between March and April decreased in proportion of 34.4 to 33.4 percent. In early May figure was 32.5 percent.

the growth in penetration of Android is generally progressing much slower than Apple’s iOS, partly because the Android ecosystem is not only directed from Google. Producers and suppliers of Android smartphones usually determine whether and if so when ern upgrades to a higher version of Android. Google proposes to overcome this problem by pushing regular important updates through online store Android Play.

The three versions of Android Jelly Bean (4.1, 4.2 and 4.3) together accounted for 20.1 percent share, up from 21.3 percent a month earlier.
