Google has announced that the company’s limit on the size of Android apps will increase from 50mn to a whopping 100MB. This means that Android applications may now take up twice as much space than before.
Google gives Android app developers now more space to build their apps. Previously, developers had to 50MB per app at their disposal, and that number will be raised to 100MB. Please note: this is the apk file. That is a kind of container in which apps are packed, unpacking Android and installs. The recently released FIFA 16 on Android for example, has 1.5 GB large, but that does not mean you 1.5GB download from Google Play. The additional data comes only later.
However, Google does indicate that you do not have to opt for this extra space, because in many cases it’s better for everyone if the apk files remain small. When everyone now goes consuming 100MB of space, it means that users need more time to download. In general, it is true that if applications can be downloaded quickly, they are also downloaded faster. Nevertheless, developers will be pleased with this, because a little extra space never hurts.
Soon, when exactly is not known yet, so you’ll find more apps in Google Play.
