The US regulator Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is investigating whether the internet giant Google has hampered competition in access to its Android operating system. This was reported by news agency Bloomberg Friday according to insiders.

The FTC and the Justice Department have reportedly reached agreement to acquire the activities of Google Android under the microscope. Officials would have already spoken with technology companies who feel that Google gives priority to its own services on the Android platform.

The research is still in its early stages, according to those involved. It is unclear whether it comes to formal proceedings. Google nor the FTC declined to comment.

Brussels looks after complaints include Microsoft and Nokia for some time for Android. It is not clear whether the cooperating US and European antitrust investigators.

At the end of the second quarter was 59 percent of smartphones in the US equipped with Android. The iOS software Apple followed with 38 percent, according to a market research firm. Microsoft released the third place, with its Windows Phone software, but far behind Google and Apple over 2 percent.
