At Google I / O 2015, Google announced a new preview version of Android. Android M will be launched later this year, but developers (and curious users) already can get to work. The latest version, preview 2 contains a number of new functions and improvements and we’ll put them to you one by one.

Hide icons System

Android M Preview 2 is intended mainly for developers. They can already make their apps for Android and M-specific options that will be launched in the new Android version, are already tested. In addition, Google also already get valuable feedback about the new features work.

For developers is certainly added a new app that allows the interface to be slightly modified. The app UI System Tuner, which was also found in the first preview, has received a number of new features. At the first preview you could adjust all your settings fast. Now it is also possible to hide icons system. So you can for example choose not to show the bluetooth or network icon. Furthermore, it is also possible to display the battery percentage in the battery icon instead of next.

Most of these changes seem to be intended primarily for making neat screenshots of apps, so they can be used in the Google Play Store without Photoshop there to have to come to pass. A feature that we know that is the “demo mode”. In addition, all notification icons in the system tray hidden and you see only an icon for a full network coverage and a full battery. Speaking of screenshots if you’re making a screenshot, it can also be removed directly from the notifications. Useful if you accidentally make a screenshot where some sensitive information on it, like a coming-WhatsApp message.

Improved launcher

In the first Android-M preview became the standard launcher for Android, Google Now Launcher, addressed. Where in the current version, which is available for earlier Android versions, there are horizontally through pages of apps scrolled to be, is that the new launcher vertically.

The first Android M preview showed a vertical list to see who was sorted alphabetically. That sorting remains the same, only the letters on the side (which were quite prominent in the previous version) disappeared. New is the search bar that was added in the launcher at the top of the screen. Either by giving in a few characters, you will easily find the app you’re looking for.

Changes in store

Google has changed some things around storage on Android M. We are talking not only about the internal memory smartphones and tablets, but also on USB storage and SD cards. We have the first preview of Android M already seen that Google has done his best to create a piece of SD cards and USB storage again useful on Android

The second preview of Android M, the company readjusted a number of storage-related things. The ‘Opslag’ screen has been optimized. Where we previously saw as a colorful bar where exactly was to see which component (eg media or apps) took up much space, there is now there to see a single bar with how much memory is left. It remains below, the separate components, each component can still be seen how much space is being used.

It was already possible to see the first preview the memory usage of apps and system processes, but it was rather cumbersome to find the memory information. From the second preview of Android M is a separate item added Memory. By pressing on it you will get an overview of memory usage in the last three hours. You can also view summaries of the last 6 hours, 12 hours or the last day.

Google will be the final version of Android M still present in the third quarter. It is expected that later this month following a third preview for developers and the launch of Android M, which then pass its final name and version number will be, will follow before the end of September. Presumably this is accompanied by the launch of two new Nexus devices, one from LG and one from Huawei.
