New leak is ‘vegetative state’ of Android phone – Telegraaf.nl

Beveiiligingsonderzoekers Trend Micro have a new leak in mobile operating system Android found. This allows them to turn a phone into a ‘vegetative state’ which he still turned on, but no longer responds to most commands from users

.

The leak is in the part of the Android media indexes on a device. Visiting a malicious website is enough to infect the phone. Also, a rogue app can be used. In the latter case, a hacker program an app that he is booted by default, even if the phone is rebooted, which normally can fix the problem.

The bug exists in versions 4.3 through with 5.1.1 of Android, which means that about half of all circulating devices with the operating system vulnerable to hacking.

Google has been aware of the error, but according to Trend Micro it assigned a low priority and it takes awhile to put right the wrong.
