The attack worked at least on the Samsung Galaxy S5 and HTC One Max. The fingerprint scanners of these devices would have made it possible to read unencrypted fingerprints with malware.
Users can choose a new password after steal passwords or reset their account. Because that fingerprinting is not possible, the attack according to researcher Zhang Yulong is extra serious, “For the remainder of the life of the victim, the attacker can continue to use the fingerprint to do other evil things.”
The makers of the hit Android devices have been released updates that fix the problem
