There is another great Android leak revealed . Hundreds of millions of Android devices can be taken over by remote hackers. This was discovered by researchers at security firm Check Point
.
The researchers gave the leak the name Certifi-gate. They presented their findings this week at Black Hat hacker conference in Las Vegas. Attackers can control your Android tablet or smartphone by exploiting a vulnerability in the security certificate of the Remote Support applications. Companies use these applications to provide technical support via internet if something is not working properly.
“Hackers can get unlimited access with Certifi-gate to the device, for example, to steal personal data, to see where you are and turn on microphones to record conversations, “explains a spokesman for Check Point out to International Business Times. The company has received no signals that that really happened, but it would be ‘very easy’ to be. The leak is especially problematic because users can not itself take the certificates.
Updates
According to Check Point are devices from LG, Samsung, HTC and ZTE potentially vulnerable to Certifi-gate. These manufacturers would have done the wrong changes to the remote support functions. There have been distributed updates that should stop the leak. Nexus devices are not in danger, let Google know. Check Point has developed a free app that allows users to check their smartphone or tablet can be taken.
Android does have to do more with great vulnerabilities. Last week it was revealed that in almost all versions of Google’s mobile operating system is a leak that hackers can also take over control devices. The leak, which uses a vulnerability in the video of Android, was named Stage Fright
