It seems time for a new business model, whereby you as phone owner fee can get an update for your device. Then you can at least make themselves weigh whether you are buying a new or that you invest in an update, and it becomes more attractive for manufacturers to make these updates.
This might actually everything should apply where hardware and software are clearly separated as well navi’s cars now. And of course would be better if you as user can choose which OS you want on your phone, as they can with PCs. That battle they had to make in smartphones, but …
Once started phones as boxes and boxes manufacturers and sliders.
But in the meantime have become more PCs with a whole series of them software. There just needs to change something in the whole scheme of business or we have to accept that your phone just after a year of disposal. Seems like a waste of material and in addition, the time until the next hack getting shorter.
For cars is that problem more that automakers fail no software pocket and thus buy anything and no one is responsible for the security of the software, or updates. But cars you already have a system of maintenance and replacement of parts and MOT, so it might be easier a cycle of software releases mainstreaming (if someone makes them …).
But both legislation for telephony as the legislation for vehicles running before completely behind.
