Google has to deliver Android Play Store only in Russia – Techzine

Google was convicted in September of last year to the Russian competition watchdog that an abuse of a dominant position with Android. Google does this by requiring Android manufacturers, according to the watchdog that if they want to use the Google Play store, they also need to install any other Google apps. Google decided to go in appeal, but that appeal has been dismissed.

The Russian court in Moscow has decided not to act on the appeal of Google. The court announces its full support to the decision by the competition watchdog. This so Google will not even be able to defend themselves.

The Russian search engine Yandex is ultimately behind this whole thing because they have complained to the Russian authorities. Yandex also wants its apps flour feathers on Android smartphones but has signed the agreement with Google the manufacturers this is impossible.

Google now has to pay a fine for abusing its competitiveness and will have to adjust the contracts with manufacturers. The big question now is what Google is going to do, if the company wants to remain active in Russia, the manufacturers will have the opportunity to sell Android smartphones with only the Google Play Store and Yandex is likely to conclude agreements to become the default search engine included. However, the company may also choose to withdraw from Russia. If Google before the Russians are now rely on alternative application stores with all the risks that entails.
