Android boss Lockheimer also takes on Chrome Division – Android World

After Larry Page took a step aside as CEO of Google, was named Sundar Pichai to big boss. Hiroshi Lockheimer took over the task of Pichai to lead the Android department at Google and he now has even greater responsibilities within Google.

Chrome OS, Chrome, Chrome Cast and Android

Sundar Pichai was in the past at the same time responsible for the Chrome and Android Division. When he became CEO, the responsibilities were somewhat divided and Hiroshi Lockheimer was appointed VP of Android division along with Dave Burke. Burke is still responsible for the technical part of Android, but Lockheimer is Senior Vice President of the big boss.

Lockheimer previously worked at Danger Inc., the company of Andy Rubin. After Andy Rubin had founded the company Android Inc., which was acquired by Google, he contacted Lockheimer again. Since January 2006 Lockheimer working on Android in Google.

Many overlap

It is not surprising that the Chrome and Android departments fall under the responsibility of one VP. The products are close together and have a lot of overlap. Last year, for instance, support for Android apps on Chrome OS and Chrome apps on Android. The Chrome OS team did this year not only on a Chrome OS laptop, the new Chromebook Pixel, but also worked on an Android tablet (Pixel C). There is another area of overlap: the Chromecast shares the Google Cast function with Android TV

In the future, we may see a further integration between Chrome OS and Android.. Thus, it is still not excluded that the two systems in certain areas are going to be joined together. An example would be that an Android smartphone as a Chrome OS computer “acts when, possibly wirelessly connected to a monitor
