If you want the best Android experience, a Google Nexus device a smart choice. Unfortunately, the Nexus 5X is a little bit disappointing, because the smartphone in the Netherlands is much more expensive than its predecessor.
A majority of all smartphones in the Netherlands runs on Android.
Nexus One is an Android smartphone made by an outside manufacturer, but with Google’s Android version on it. Android is owned by Google, but by many manufacturers, such as Samsung or HTC, adapted to make the software more personal. Nexus One runs on a largely barren Android version, which is regarded by purists as the ideal version.
Black and matt
The Nexus 5X is the successor to the in 2013 released Nexus 5 and from November in the Dutch shops. Both Nexus 5′s are made by LG, but the new Nexus 5X is a whopping become a fat 100 euros more expensive: 479 instead of 350 euros for the entry-level 16GB. Thus, the Nexus 5X is no longer the bang-for-the-buck model which you used the first Nexus 5, and that’s huge sin.
The design of the Nexus 5X looks much the same as its predecessor. The device is made of matte black plastic and feels remarkably light at 139 grams. The biggest change is the fingerprint scanner on the back. The scanner is located under the camera lens and responds to touch – you do not have to press button
Your fingerprint is rapidly recognized, as with other high-end appliances and the screen is unlocked immediately.. The site of the scanner is not ideal. While holding the scanner is easy to reach, but once the unit on its back is you can not unlock the smartphone without first picking up.
A bit skimpy
the Nexus 5X The hardware consists of a Snapdragon 808 chip and 2GB RAM. That’s a little skimpy for the price you pay. This is mainly because the latter, as a high-end device of around 500 euros anyway rather 3GB RAM should have. This leads here and there to small and surely noticeable hitches. For example if you open the Chrome browser, the software can sometimes stutter. We absolutely recommend the 32GB version of 529 euros, because the 16GB model has just 7GB free.
The 5.2 inch screen has a very fine size. Just not too big, but certainly not too small. The full-HD resolution displays everything in focus, although the brightness of the screen is slightly on the low side. This means that the screen on a sunny day which is less legible. At the front are also two speakers. Unfortunately they do not offer stereo sound, as the top speaker is used for calls and only the bottom of videos and music. In the bottom speaker is well blocked an LED light that lights up when you receive for example, a Facebook message or WhatsApp’je. Slim!
Mmmmm, Marshmallows!
The main reason to buy a Nexus is the software. The Nexus 5X runs natively on the latest version: Android 6.0 Marshmallow. The software looks very clearly and offers some important new features such as the ability to adjust in every app that gets it right. Do not you want to scan your Twitter contacts list? Then you can block this.
Another useful feature is the ability to turn on a special priority mode. This mode allows only incoming calls and notifications by people and apps that you have approved. Every phone should have such a function by default.
The biggest innovation that brings Android Marshmallow, Google Now on Tap – an extension of the smart assistant Google Now. Pressing any button on the home searching Google Now on Tap automatically relevant information with what you see on your screen. Suppose you’re reading an article about the movie The Martian . With Now on Tap instantly find more information about the movie, such as the figure on IMDB or a trailer. You do not need to copy the title of the film and pasting it into the browser, but only briefly press the home button.
The energy efficient Doze Google
Marshmallow has been trying to reduce the energy consumption of Android. Before that the Internet giant has developed a new technology, called Doze. This option enables the device after a period of inactivity in a power-saving sleep mode. The problem is that you have a smartphone over the entire day used so often that Doze does not work very effectively.
Doze is therefore particularly suitable for tablets, and less for smartphones like the Nexus 5X. Therefore, the battery life is also a bit disappointing: mostly the phone around 20:00 had to go to the charger. One advantage: the supplied charger recharges your device within an hour of 0 to 100. The Nexus 5X is recharged via a USB port c. This new port does not matter how the cable put into it: one size fits all. Very nice! You only have to ensure that you always have a USB c-cable with you to recharge the Nexus 5X.
Outstanding camera
The Nexus devices have never really had a good camera. In addition to the Nexus 5X finally change: the 12.3 megapixel camera shoots very fast very good photos. That is partly due to the autofocus, which provides a laser beam which are objects. So the lens can quickly focus on the correct object.
The camera app Google makes when shooting a photo automatically HDR variant. With HDR three photos shot and combine the best parts of the shots into a single image. If a portion of a picture which is darker, this is replaced by the same lighter portion of another picture. This is useful should be recorded when shooting landscapes, where there is a lot of detail.
Shame about the price
It’s a shame that Google is not the US Nexus 5X- uses prices in Netherlands. In the United States cost the Nexus 5X “only” 379 dollars, 479 euros in the Netherlands. That’s about a hundred euros too much for what you get. If the Nexus 5X had cost 379 euros, a Topdeal. Now you actually get a bit too much for the price you pay. And that’s a shame, because the Nexus 5X offers by far the best Android experience you can get.
