New clues for standalone car found OS based on Android – Tweakers

Google seems to be doing a separate Android version for cars. This is evident from the latest version of the Android compatibility definition document or cdd. The document contains references next to Handheld, Television & Watch also links to Automotive.

The current Android Car is no separate operating system, but an app that runs on Android. At this time, Google creates three kinds of the Android operating system, namely the basic system for Android phones and tablets, Android TV for televisions and Android Wear. Android Car is an app that can be installed on some devices, but Android car can not function as the underlying operating system for the car itself. The app can not be anything like the heating control, therefore switch back should be made to the built-in OS of the car.

The new CDD show that Google still is working on a separate Android operating system in the car. It says literally that the Android Automotive deployment refers to an in-car entertainment and infotainment system partly or completely runs on Android Automotive operating system.

ArsTechnica points out that it is striking that Android Automotive a Home function must and offer the return and recent features can offer . In Huide Car app for example is only a home button, but because there are only three “apps” via Auto offered, music, phone cards, there is no recent apps button. It may add a recent apps button shows that it may be more complex functionality added to automotive than what is now possible with the Auto app.
